New Zealand’s waterways will benefit from the thousands of Kiwis who have recycled their mobile phones in the past year.
RE:MOBILE, a not-for-profit mobile phone recycling scheme which is managed by the TCF, has raised over $25,000 for charity partner, Sustainable Coastlines, for the phones donated from October 2018 to September 2019.
“We are thrilled to be RE:MOBILE’s charity partner. The support of RE:MOBILE and the TCF is absolutely phenomenal,” said Steph Vercoe, Strategic Partnerships Director at Sustainable Coastlines.
“RE:MOBILE has now donated over $111,000 to Sustainable Coastlines since we came on board as its charity partner in 2016. This has allowed us to plant over 11,000 trees around waterways in order to improve water quality.”
The New Zealand telecommunications industry is strongly committed to responsible management of e-waste. RE:MOBILE enables consumers to easily recycle unwanted mobile phones, which they can drop off at any 2degrees, Spark or Vodafone retail stores.
“The environmental benefits of mobile phone recycling are amplified by our relationship with Sustainable Coastlines,” said Geoff Thorn, TCF CEO.
“The work that Sustainable Coastlines does to protect New Zealand’s waterways is crucial and we are pleased that we can contribute to this through the money raised by RE:MOBILE.”
